TA graded everything. Four class quizzes with open-ended, multiple-choice, and matching questions determine grades. She offers a one-page cheat sheet. There was so much reading and little feedback all semester. Lectures were very long; videos were engaging. No grades were entered until finals week, which is take-home. Dr.Hersh is the best professor I have had in the anthropology department so far; she is very clear with the material and what she expects from students. Very interesting class! She's a great professor, although her standards may be stiff, it benefits the students in meeting deadlines. She presents interesting material to read, although the introductory material is dry. Good class discussions and provides opportunity for extra credit! Class was very straight forward. If you read the assignments and take notes thers no reason you cant get an A in this class. As long as you do the reading and show up, you'll be fine. She is very nice and tries to make the class interesting. There is no final, just 4 "quizzes" which are pretty straightforward, and she gives review sheets and a few extra-credit opportunities. Prof Hersch is really sweet and works hard to make sure students really understand the material. I like her use of films/videos though she can also be very reading heavy. Pretty great professor. Attendance is mandatory so you have to come and sign in. No papers, just 3 exams throughout the semester. Final on last day of class. Lots of movie and film clips. Quite a fair bit of reading but not too bad. Exams are based on lecture slides AND readings. Great professor, her quizzes were really straight forward and she gave us review sheets before each one. For each quiz she gave us an easy extra credit opportunity.
