As someone who is terrible at french and can't hold a conversation, I found this class to be extremely easy. As long as you pay attention and participate in class, it is easy to do well. Prof Dunand is enthusiastic about the subject but her classes are a bit repetitive and tough to sit through sometimes. She asks questions and if no one answers she sits there for too long before just answering them herself. But she's clear about what you need to know and is really helpful and sweet. The sweetest woman ever. Was intimidated by her accent and how fast she talked for the first couple of classes (she is a native french speaker). To this day I still don't understand everything she is saying, but I understand a WHOLE lot more than I did at the beginning. This professor is genuine but unchallenging. Advanced French 2 is supposedly the highest level of French offered at Northeastern and she didn't require us to write our (take-home) exams in French. I've been taking Madame Dunand for 3 years, and she is one of the most wonderful people to learn from. You should really show up every day because class size is usually small and she WILL notice and care. She's a great professor- always enthusiastic to teach the class! Her tests were very straightforward and she tells you exactly what's going to be on them. Professor Dunand made class interesting, although not necessarily challenging. As long as you show up and pay attention, you should do well on her exams. Love her!! Awesome teacher. She's so sweet. You do have to go to class, but we always got out early. Online homework assignments, 3 exams and a final. I have had Madame Dunand for 3 or 4 semesters now, and I have to say, I always look forward to her classes. She is pretty funny, and if she likes you class will be fun. Brilliant professor. I believe she's the only legitimate French person in the department, although Cao-Dunh could be too. Her classes are hillarious, insightful, and some of the best I've had at Northeastern. Very nice prof. Not much homework although you always have packets due the day of the tests. She tells you exactly what to study for each test. Amazing prof! She knows her stuff and explains it better and more clearly than the book does. Her accent is a little weird if you're not used to French accents, but easily overcome if you pay attention. Syllabus is really helpful. Outlines everything. She tells you exactly what will be on each exam the day before. She's nice in a distant way. Beware if this is your first time taking this level of French. Most students have prior experience and it looked like the newbies had to work a lot harder.
