My least favorite class I have ever taken. Chong expected coding experience from students in a discipline where that would be extremely unlikely. While clearly very intelligent, Chong quickly got frustrated when her poor teaching skills are negatively received. She told our class we were a "disappointment." Ineffective lecturer; often forced to teach myself coursework out of the three required textbooks. Treats class as immature, at one point threatened to take away "laptop privileges" in a programming course. Little feedback or clarity on grades, and unhelpful with questions. Professor Chong is strict and has intense rules for class. She expects groups to meet at least 3x a week on top of individual assignments and readings. She is also an incredibly tough grader and the TA does not give feedback on individual assignments. Grade averages for assignments has been 68%. This has confidently been the hardest and most frustrating course that I have taken in my entire degree at Northeastern. Expect 20+ hours of work a week, unclear guidelines, and lecture that do not make sense. This class is mostly self-taught. Very intense class, avoid if you want an easy A. 15+ hrs per wk for an intro class. Assumes we are able to code and when we asked for more in-class time to practice with help we were told to just practice more by ourselves.
