I really genuinely like the man, however, it must be said that he is very out of touch with his students to think that anyone is paying attention in his boring lectures. I wish I actually learned something for the time/money spent, but was an easy A... Also don't bother reading past the 3 basic theories of you have any common knowledge.POLS1160 2025-12-23 07:09:26 +0000 UTC
Just a great guy overall! Take his class if you want an easy A + interesting lectures. They're not very engaging as he tends to wonder off and ramble about Greece, but if you lock in they're like a nice podcast. No extra credit, but he is very generous with grading; as long as you do the bare minimum there's no way you get anything under 90%.POL1160 2025-12-18 02:54:18 +0000 UTC
Hes fabulous—intelligent, compassionate, organized yet laid-back. Very Greek, so brush up on your Greek history. The clss is chill, but he yap in lectures. Grades are attendance (not mandatory), weekly posts, a take-home midterm/final. With IR/POLS background, you can skim readings, but talk to him after class. He's awesome; I'd take him again.INTL1101 2025-12-14 00:28:24 +0000 UTC
Prof. Livanis gets off topic sometimes but is extremely knowledgeable about IR and is an interesting perspective to learn from. Very caring and reasonable man, just communicate with him and you'll be fine. Show up to class though- he doesn't grade attendance but he certainly notices when someone's not there.1101 2024-08-07 15:06:07 +0000 UTC
Livanis is very relaxed. He gets his material across and is a lenient grader, and instructs his TAs to be so as well. Very accessible by email, and willing to meet with you and help you out if you need it. Tends to go off on tangents but does catch himself eventually. Would for sure take a class with him again.POLS1155 2020-02-19 17:02:41 +0000 UTC
Very clear about expectations and if you follow his directions on tests & quizzes ,the class will be rewarding and you will get an A, lectures are sometimes off topic and a lot of the things he says are not on the exam but READ THE BOOK because thats the material he will test you on. Participation in recitation matters. TA grades everything1150 2015-05-12 21:49:26 +0000 UTC
I was confused by his Greek accent at first too, it only got more clear to me after the spring break, but he is a funny and easy-going guy. His grading is clear and it's relatively easy to get a good grade on exams or papers. Him always talking about Greece is interesting but sometimes very annoying.POLS3435 2015-04-13 15:26:54 +0000 UTC
He was a sweet guy and funny but so much work! and he's a tough grader I did not do as well as I thought Diane Horn is a much better teacher and easierINTL 2014-03-18 22:31:27 +0000 UTC
One of the best. Get to know this man. Rocks a black polo like no other.EUPOLS 2011-11-09 17:02:39 +0000 UTC
Prof. Livanis is a very nice teacher who is passionate about IR. He gives 3 pop quizzes throughout the semester, drops the lowest score. He also randomly takes attendance, but other than that the class is very straightforward. He is caring and is always available to help students. There are a lot of papers, but you will learn a lot. Great prof!POLS1160 2025-04-27 23:44:45 +0000 UTC
Super great professor! He truly cares about his students. His lectures can be long, but you can tell he is super passionate about the topic and he knows a lot. Definitely talk to him outside of class if you want to learn more. He is easy to meet with outside of class! Great professor, I'd recommend.POL1160 2025-05-12 14:48:39 +0000 UTC
Ioannis is very passionate about international relations, so he has great points, and you learn a lot from his course and he's sweet and a nice guy. His class is very lecture-heavy, so he gets carried away a lot, but the assignments we have are useful, and I did learn from his class. He is also willing to listen and wants everyone to do well!INTL1101 2025-12-04 20:00:14 +0000 UTC
It's an interesting class and Livanis really knows what he's talking about so it's such a pleasure to listen to his lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you'll want to attend class.1101 2014-11-24 23:39:31 +0000 UTC
Pretty confusing lectures but he seems to know his stuff. Anyone that has taken him will know his favorite catchphrase... "Am i making any sense?" Enjoy!INTL 2013-08-27 21:32:59 +0000 UTC
Very lecture heavy and reading the textbook definitely helps. Such an easy grader!!! Get 100% on most of the work just by writing something that kind of makes sense. He also does make the material easily understandable in his lectures but READ THE TEXTBOOK because there's a lot more information.POLS1160 2020-11-11 21:47:00 +0000 UTC
