He needs a hobby besides pestering me 3 times about the reason behind me having to leave class just a few minutes early after I had attended every other class and have been participating. Once he has a personal vendetta against you he will be not stop and will grade your assignments harder. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASSPOLS2370 2025-12-05 18:01:21 +0000 UTC
Definitley knowledgable about the subject but his tests are 100 multiple choice, all of which are extremely specific questions that are difficult to answer even with the textbook. Then he is surprised that the average was a 60, asks the class what he can do better and proceeds to shoot down all of our criticism by saying "Youre wrong, Im right".POLDEVNATIONS 2024-04-17 00:37:33 +0000 UTC
I absolutely adored Prof. Miles's class. He is incredibly interesting and learned, and taking his International Affairs class made me switch my major from Poli-sci. Be warned- he's a tough grader and there is a lot of homework, but honestly I found the homework to be really interesting. If Prof. Miles has 0 fans I am dead.POLS1160 2024-04-11 18:25:09 +0000 UTC
Worst professor ever. Self-absorbed with antiquated teaching style.POLS3487 2021-11-03 18:57:21 +0000 UTC
A hard class with a great lecturer. Always very engaging at the very least. For a class that most POLS majors will have to take, a good professor. His recitation structure is excellent too. Don't be fooled though, he's a hard grader.POLS1155 2015-09-10 15:23:22 +0000 UTC
Very, very tough grader.POLS1150 2014-05-05 00:43:22 +0000 UTC
Really great class. Don't listen to the other reviews saying it's so much work. You don't necessarily have to do all the reading and each class you have to hand in a 300 word paper. Hardest part is keeping that short. Multiple choice "progress evaluations" were scaled. I absolutely enjoyed this class and it was certainly easy enough.POLU370 2009-06-17 16:50:42 +0000 UTC
Miles is an exceedingly poor teacher. All questions from midterm and final were copy&pasted from a website, and he *encouraged* the class to go there and read the questions. How the hell does someone learn by just memorizing specific questions and their answers? His lectures are useless and never pertain to grade work. Learn how to run a classroomPOL160 2009-02-25 19:44:43 +0000 UTC

Easily the most engaging and knowledgeable professor at NU. I've had him for Rel+Pol and PDN and both are excellent courses which he only enhances with his hands on experiences. Take his classes if you can!POLU487 2007-05-16 09:20:55 +0000 UTC
HIGHLY RECOMMEND...Had him for Rel+Pol -- truly genuine guy...really cares about the topic and wants you to learn...GREAT class and an even better professor! Work load was not bad and grading was fair...gives you MANY chances with extra credit assignments.... documentaries watched in class are outdated but he ties it in - take this class!POL350 2007-02-09 09:50:54 +0000 UTC
professor miles' pdn class was the most interesting, well run, organized and effective classroom i've ever stepped foot in at northeastern. if you're truly interested in development, politics of developing nations in africa, south america, south east asia etc... take his class. workload is rather difficult but was worth the knowledge/insight gainePOL460 2006-12-24 03:17:52 +0000 UTC
Had him for Religion and Politics - by far one of the best and most engaging classes I've ever had. A lot of work, but worth taking.POLU350 2006-11-17 10:16:22 +0000 UTC
Crazy grader & assigns a lot of work, especially compared to other professors. But he is funny (not always on purpose) & the topics are always interesting. Allows for discussion & is very knowledgeable & is always willing to help. As long as you are willing to put in the work, you should do fine. By far one of the best classes/professors I've had.RELIGIONPOLITIC 2006-05-09 15:46:58 +0000 UTC
