Beware, comments on Shillaber are very subjective. He tends to have inconsistent and unprofessional attitudes towards different people and students. Very tough grader over minor issues.CIVE2340 2025-01-03 03:17:30 +0000 UTC
i recommend attending lectures, but all of the information on the slides is found in the textbook. the textbook is necessary for the course. assigns a lot of work, but it was not too difficult. exams were hard, he gives some practice which gives you a general idea of the exam, but they are a bit harder. do the textbook problems and you'll do fineCIVE2260 2024-12-12 01:02:23 +0000 UTC
Assigns way too much work. Would never recommendCIV2260 2023-12-04 13:10:44 +0000 UTC
So. Much. Homework. Extremely annoying with the formatting of all assignments and he is a VERY tough grader on exams. He was knowledgeable about the course material though and his lectures were decent. Thats it though. He is the most condescending and arrogant professor Ive had so far though, hope to never take any class with him again.CIVE2261 2021-12-22 04:50:49 +0000 UTC
Shillaber gets a bad rep because of his homework policy, but he's just asking that students arrive on time. I also used his memo template for other classes. He gives the same amount of homework and tests as the rest of the Statics profs. I found his lectures clear and informative and he's good at answering questions in class and in office hours.CIVE2221CIV2340 2020-04-17 03:22:12 +0000 UTC
Craig is an arrogant and egocentric individual. But he is a very fine teacher. Explains concepts well. His course is a lot of homework (HW due EVERY class). HW are due at the beginning of class, so if you are 1 min late, you get a zero. But he will help you if you put in the work.CIVE2221 2019-12-07 22:00:45 +0000 UTC
Not a bad professor. Very professional and courteous. HW formatting is a bit much. Smart guy. Could be more accessible. Slides were well written, but make sure you go to every class because he leaves a lot of "fill in the blanks" on his slides.CIVE7394 2019-03-20 00:02:55 +0000 UTC
Exams have nothing to do with homework. Class lectures are barely related to the exams he gives. Arrogant, rude, disrespectful. Enjoys talking down to students. Why is he teaching at neu? Don't we deserve better than this?CIVE2385 2018-05-14 01:06:59 +0000 UTC
Shillaber is a reasonable professor. He does not throw any curveballs on exams, so if you study the material from lectures and do the homework, you'll do well. His lectures are very thorough and you learn a lot. Labs can be long, but split amongst group members so they're not too bad. Not the nicest guy, but the longer you know him, the better.CIVE2340 2024-04-19 00:34:43 +0000 UTC
Craig gives good lectures and is organized, and that's where his pros end. He gives an insane amount of homework, and is extremely unhelpful if you don't understand problems. He doesn't post homework solutions ever, and exams are tough. Super strict grading criteria for exams and homework. Doesn't post annotated lecture slides.CIVE2260 2021-12-10 01:34:42 +0000 UTC
Craig Shillaber seems to assign way too much work. We had a bunch of homework, up to 20 page lab reports, a semester-long project, and difficult exams. The exam practice that he posts are not similar to the actual exams that you take. He also is co-author of the textbook that you use, so if you must take the course, find the book online.CIV2260 2023-11-28 23:48:47 +0000 UTC
Can't make it to class? He doesn't care, & nothing is posted online. Homework? Has his own layout you have to follow, minus points for any you don't follow. Longest HW'S I've ever done. You have to hand it in BEFORE class starts. 1 second late and you've got a 0. He gave us 3 midterms. HW's & classwork don't relate, neither do they to exams. Enjoy.CIVE2221 2018-12-03 15:13:29 +0000 UTC
This guy is CONSTANTLY on a power trip. He requires that you hand in your homework before the start of class, or else he won't take it. I one time got 10 points off my homework because I wrote on the back of the paper. His tests do not reflect homework questions. He is not willing to help students. Shillaber has super organized lecture note packs that make it easy to follow/revisit content from class. Tests are generally very fair and while there are quite a lot of homework assignments, they end up helping later on/save you time studying. Super accessible outside of class and genuinely enjoys the content he teaches.CIVE2340 2023-04-13 19:56:14 +0000 UTC
Was scared by these reviews going into this class, but Craig was a pretty good professor. Did not experience the concerns other students who rated him did. I thought his exams were fair. The homework was a lot for sure, and at time a bit unnecessary, but it prepares you for the exam. Very knowledgeable about the subject.CIVE2260 2021-12-06 17:45:22 +0000 UTC
