Professor Stowell is HANDS DOWN one of the kindest, sweetest, most caring, passionate professors at NEU. I was absolutely terrified of taking statistics and I walked away from the course feeling confident in what I learned and proud of myself. I attribute my feelings about the course entirely to Jake's amazing ability to make statistics FUN.CRIM3700 2025-08-09 03:03:27 +0000 UTC
This was one of my most enjoyable classes at Northeastern! Professor truly cares about his students and recognizes when the work load may be heavy. He's flexible with due dates if you make him aware ahead of time. Although I took this course online, Stowell always extended his services if needed after hours. Great person overall! Recommend 10/10!CRIM4949 2024-12-11 23:43:32 +0000 UTC
Easily one of my favorite professors I've had at Northeastern. Dr. Stowell is extremely knowledgable, funny, and always willing to go the extra mile for his students.CRIM4800 2018-12-01 18:45:11 +0000 UTC
I have never rated a professor but needed to for professor Stowell because he was the best professor I have had at Northeastern and I am preparing to graduate! So kind, helpful, and always willing to work with students to ensure they succeed. Would recommend this class to anybody, even if you don't love statistics!CRIM3700 2025-07-10 01:38:55 +0000 UTC
Never received feedback for a single assignment submitted. For capstone, guidelines and feedback are essential, and he did not provide anything along those lines. Makes time for students outside of class, but class itself was unproductive. Very nice guy, but unorganized and did not use time efficiently.CRIM4949 2019-04-11 15:33:19 +0000 UTC
Really great teacher who is amusing and keeps the class interesting. Weekly pop quizzes on the readings and only 2 tests which you really don't need to study for if you go to class and pay attention. Mapping labs are fairly easy and can be done in class (time permitting). This is a great class to fulfill your 4000+ CRIM elective.CRIM4800 2013-04-25 11:03:51 +0000 UTC
I never submit reviews for professors, but Professor Stowell made class worth attending everyday. He bakes coffee cake and other baked goods for the last day of class, truly one of the best and most caring professors I have had. Super open to questions, really just a happy addition to any stressful day of class.CRIM3700 2025-04-29 04:12:49 +0000 UTC
Jake is one of the best professors I've had at Northeastern. He is truly caring and will never hesitate to take time out of his own day or pause the lecture to help you understand a certain problem or equation. You can tell that teaching is a passion of his--he always comes to class excited to be there and to change your mind about statistics!CRIM3700 2025-04-15 17:49:00 +0000 UTC
Prof Stowell is the kindest professor I've had at Northeastern. Math is my least favorite subject, but Prof made the material easy to understand. He's great at answering questions and provides opportunities for help including time in class, office hours, and review sessions before exams. The exams are open note and he offers quiz corrections.CRIM3700 2024-12-04 19:57:37 +0000 UTC
Dr. Stowell is one of the most caring professors at Northeastern. I really struggled in stats and he worked with me to ensure I had a better understanding of the course content. If you put in the effort he will go above and beyond to ensure you grasp the content and walk away learning a lot. If you take stats for CRIM take it with Dr. Stowell!CRIM3700 2024-08-14 22:48:09 +0000 UTC
Prof. Stowell is by far the best professor I have had while at Northeastern. Although I am not a math person, this class was easy to understand and made fun by Prof. Stowell. He is the most helpful and caring guy who puts effort into ensuring his students succeed. He brings food into class, is always around to help, is flexible, and understanding.CRIM3700 2024-04-17 14:14:07 +0000 UTC
