Easiest class I've taken here. Just show up and participate for an A. She's also super chill and if u can get ur Model UN class talking about something else u don't even have to stay on topic.POLS4910 2025-12-23 07:18:53 +0000 UTC
Prof. Garey is great! She always brought the best energy to every single class and she is super knowledgeable about National Security. Sometimes she was a bit of a picky grader with little/no feedback, but nothing crazy! The planning of the course and assignments got a a little crammed and hectic towards the end. Get ready to write!POLS3420 2025-12-17 03:56:04 +0000 UTC
I took this + Arab League at the same time. She's goated.POLS3425 2025-05-21 04:30:41 +0000 UTC
Prof Gary is great but this class can b a bit much sometimes. there's a lot of outside work since the class is once a week, and you have to do a lot of outside research to learn about the countries. Participation consistently is also required, but you get used to it over time. overall I feel like u learn a lot and the class was worth my timePOLS4915 2023-04-02 19:00:57 +0000 UTC
Her lectures are not helpful and usually off topic. Class is supposed to be international relations but is very US centered. If you read the textbook (and honestly don't use the in class lectures) you can get an easy A.POLS1160 2022-01-02 01:08:55 +0000 UTC
Garey is a very sweet person, but for an intro class International Relations is absurd. You are required to read over 100 pages per week and unless you listen to every word uttered you will not do well on tests. She doesn't provide study guides, may switch the content of a test the night before, and doesn't curve or provide extra credit.POLS1161 2018-04-03 21:41:49 +0000 UTC
Not a great IR prof, fell really behind bc of snow days, but wasn't able to catch up. I didn't learn anything profoundly new, everything we covered I'd heard of elsewhere, here it was all condensed. She's really nice and cares a lot, but IR just wasn't the class she was meant to teachPOLS1600 2017-04-19 09:58:29 +0000 UTC
My favorite professor at NEU thus far. Attendance is mandatory, but class is typically really interesting and an open discussion so it's worth going to. Great sense of humor, and very good at answering questions. Tests are very fair, and she's very easy going on her essay grades. If you put in some effort, there's no reason you shouldn't get an APOLS1155 2016-11-21 13:54:07 +0000 UTC
Prof Garey is an amazing teacher. I have never had so much fun learning before. There will be lessons from her class that will stay with me for a lifetime.POLS3425 2018-01-01 19:46:25 +0000 UTC
Prof. Garey must have changed! In 2021, no tests; the only assignments were open-note, untimed, 10 question reading quizzes, and weekly discussion posts. Professor Garey was super helpful to make appointments outside of class. She helped me with my midterm and final papers and gave high scores for them. She really sets up the class to get an easy APOLS1160 2021-12-20 07:08:15 +0000 UTC
It's almost the end of the semester and we're a full month behind in the syllabus because Garey just can't seem to stay on topic during lectures. We'll spend the entire class period talking about something random, but we're still expected to know all the material for the exams. I like the simulation project though.POLS1600 2017-04-05 11:31:08 +0000 UTC
Her lectures can get less structured and many in-class activities are high school like, but Professor Garey is a great person. If you need any help, she will always make time for you. The only reason you should not get an A in this class is if you put in no effort. Word of advice, GO TO MEET WITH HER! She is extremely helpful and loves the effort.POLS1155 2016-04-08 14:00:56 +0000 UTC
really fun professor, great teacherPOLS3425 2016-10-25 16:25:16 +0000 UTC
This class was manageable but you had to read a chapter of the textbook every week (60+ pages). Prof Garey is so nice and helpful when you chat with her, but wasn't very accommodating with holidays/wellness days. Easy class but you have to do the readings. Prof Garey's so sweetPOLS1160 2021-05-05 02:01:44 +0000 UTC
Her lectures are dense of information and sometimes you got lost because she usually throws in a lot of examples and anecdotes that are not relevant. Her recitations are worse. They're basically just giving you another class that is 0 credit. They have their own work, not necessary relatable to the lectures. She does care about her students tooPOLS1160 2018-12-05 21:27:35 +0000 UTC
