The course structure was extremely lab heavy. On my assignments, I lost points for small mistakes that seemed unrelated to the core material, and I found the grading to be overly harsh. Professor Marpaung is somehow a professor. That said, the course can feel pretty demanding due to the pace and expectations. One downside is that getting extra help or clarification harder than it should be. Professor Marpagnug is knowledgeable and organized, with clear lectures. However, he is hard to reach outside class, which can be frustrating you almost want to thank him and kiss his forehead when he replies. Your experience with Dr. M will depend on the course you're taking. 2 days before midterm he says 4/5 of the questions will be RISCV questions despite giving us practice midterm 1s with no RISCV questions...basically wasting our study time. Wowee! I enjoyed him so much! He gave the first exam after the drop date, in which the average was a 40. So strategic! He insulted me throughout the semester for asking him questions. Julius was great. He was funny and a good teacher. At no point in that class did I feel ill prepared for a test or homework. He works closely with the TAs during lab to help us. I'm surprised he has such bad reviews on here, though I think maybe he was kinder to us because he is retiring from this course.
