Murga is okay overall, the lectures are super boring and you kind of have to go for the top hats, there is a lot of homework but honestly if you weren't like me and actually spent a few hours outside of class time to learn the content you will be fine. The extra credit helps a lot Aswell.CHEM1151 2026-02-05 22:31:36 +0000 UTC
Professor Murga is really awesome. He is extremely passionate about the subjects that he teaches and keeps his course really organized. Physical chemistry is a LOT of work but it is possible to do well if you stay on top of the work. The summer class is really fast paced and I had to treat it like a full time job but the prof gives extra credit.CHEM3431 2025-06-29 15:34:32 +0000 UTC
Did a decent job. Have to learn the work outside the class somewhat, but is trying his best and wants students to learn.CHEM1211 2018-03-14 12:04:04 +0000 UTC
Prof. Murga did a fine job. I didn't have any issues with his teaching style and he did his best to answer questions and make the lessons clear. If you go to class you'll do just fine.CHEM1212 2017-12-20 17:03:51 +0000 UTC
He's pretty good- chem is just difficult, but you'll be ok. Just go to class and do the homeworkCHEM1151 2026-01-07 16:42:23 +0000 UTC
He is a pretty good lecturer, but the course is extremely difficult, and you will suffer. Making friends is the only way to survive the course, and in order to get an A in this class... I put in nearly 20 (40 for the final) hours of studying for each exam. You don't have a choice as a biochem major; just make sure to take easy classes with this.CHEM3431 2024-04-23 15:14:20 +0000 UTC
I took two years of chem in high school and I felt like I lost information in his class. He isn't very clear in the examples he does in class and mostly reads straight from the powerpoints which are from the textbook and full of mistakes. There's a lot of homework on a program called smartworks which is terribly designed and sometimes hard to use.CHEM1211 2018-01-22 12:30:25 +0000 UTC
professor murga is my king. his lectures aren't the most enthralling but they're very useful. show up to class, pay attention, study, and you'll easily survive. he gives sheets with equations for all exams as well as helpful practice. viva profe murga.CHEM1151 2025-12-29 23:28:05 +0000 UTC
He was very nice and approachable in office hours, even met on weekends when we asked. Very helpful and kind! The class was just extremely hard, so many of us really suffered. I think collaboration in this class is key, just wish exams were take home or weighted less. Hes a great guy tho!CHEM3431 2021-07-07 00:52:00 +0000 UTC
It was his first semester teaching this class. His PPts were quotes from the book and lectures were reading the Ppts. Reading the book and doing homework is the best way to learn. Hes hard to follow in class. The exams were rough unless you took AP chem. He gave a lot of extra credit at the end of the semester, which boosted everyones averages.CHEM1211 2017-12-31 18:25:38 +0000 UTC
Lesser of the two evils of freshman gen. chem. Reads strictly off slides and all lecture materials are posted on canva. Decent guy with a fairly lenient grading rubric.CHEM1151 2025-12-29 15:18:04 +0000 UTC
Murga was a good professor- material was unreasonably difficult for non-Chemistry majors but he did his best to condense and simplify topics down to the essentials. Course ran fast over the Summer, and he acknowledged that + made appropriate due date adjustments to aid with the quick pace. Overall, learned a lot and wasn't a bad class.CHEM3431 2021-07-02 17:52:08 +0000 UTC
Definitely not a great professor. Not very clear when teaching the material - would introduce complex topics but not go very in depth, then on tests would ask very difficult questions. Did not effectively explain how to do out very many problems we would see on homework/exams. Hardest class I've ever takenCHEM1211 2017-12-21 12:10:56 +0000 UTC
His class is manageable, but don't skip every class and cram for the exams, and you should do better than I did. Class was boring, and I wasn't learning much, so I started skipping and lost many participation points. HW helps to learn the material, but exam questions are quite different.CHEM1151 2025-12-26 15:59:07 +0000 UTC
Physical Chemistry can be challenging to some students but anyone who tries his or her best will do very well. Professor Murga is very professional and easily approachable. He helps students as much as he can. Use his office hour as much as you can. And try to understand the concepts instead of memorizing the materials.CHEM3431 2021-05-27 05:53:59 +0000 UTC
