Super nice guy an so knowledgeable on terrorism and national security. Lots of reading but only af ew graded pieces of work that he doesn't put too much pressure on you grading wise.POLS3423 2026-02-16 21:22:55 +0000 UTC
Canvas is empty, he has a strong pro-I$rahell stance (because obviously) which is way too evident and and way too pro-Endian which at times got super vexing. All he does is talk and talk without any slides and does not let the session become interactive.POLS7207 2025-12-17 23:14:58 +0000 UTC
0 slides, he talks the entire class after watching 30 minutes worth of YouTube videos. Does NOT really tell you your grade until a week before final paper is due. Syllabus is 5 million years old and Canvas is barren. 0 rubrics, goes into depth abt prospectus and paper in 1 class. if you miss, you're cooked. best about him thing is his x account.POLS1160 2025-07-10 20:57:57 +0000 UTC
Extremely knowledgeable however one of the most unenjoyable classes I've ever taken. At times it seems as if the prof himself doesn't even want to be teaching the course. Final grade is only dependent on a few assignments however he does not use canvas at all and barley provides feedback.POLS3240 2024-12-19 04:47:10 +0000 UTC
Max is a great professor. He doesnt waste time talking about grading policies and other boring aspects of the course. Instead, hes all about imparting substantive knowledge. He wants to get you excited about international security. And he really does!POLS3408 2019-05-29 00:40:14 +0000 UTC
Great class discussion. Expert about ISIS and Al Qaeda and so many theories about terrorism. Fun paper assignment if you can think of a good topic.POL7343 2019-05-08 03:18:19 +0000 UTC
Governments need to listen to this guy, really smart about fighting terrorists. ISIS expert. Too much reading but no exams and a final paper. Can get an A if you work really hard and participate in class.POLS7343 2019-04-28 20:42:30 +0000 UTC
Smart, very very smartPOLS7369 2019-04-25 22:46:21 +0000 UTC
Terrorism and counterterrorism could only be taught by Max. He teaches seminar style, with him summarizing the readings and some videos, and then a class discussion, with him adding in his knowledge. Only 3 assignments, one presentation, one paper prospectus, and a 10 page paper, + participation (if you show up and talk a little pretty easy A)POLS3423 2023-12-09 17:45:59 +0000 UTC
I'm sorry to say that a lot of professors don't really care about their graduate students because they are so busy doing research. Max isn't one of them. He's a world class terrorism researcher and also on the news but he really helped me as a masters student to create my research design. No other professor is this helpful. Interesting lecturesPOLS7207 2016-05-17 19:50:19 +0000 UTC
Your grade in this class is based on participation, one 10-minute presentation, and a final paper that's 10 pages long. Class is pretty chill; the professor talks the entire time from his desk with no slideshow or anything. It can be quite boring and make you want to fall asleep. Just make sure to share a thought once or twice every class.POLS1160 2024-12-03 19:10:09 +0000 UTC
Interesting overview of the topic, though it was clear that the Professor's area of specialty is in terrorism as was clear through his lectures and recounting of personal experience. Overall interesting course and not too difficultPOLS3240 2024-04-23 02:27:27 +0000 UTC
Prof Abrahms will challenge you to think differently about the world. You have to do lots of reading but there are no tests and the final paper gives you a lot of flexibility to come up with an original thesis. It was a very fun class.POLS3408 2019-04-30 15:09:48 +0000 UTC
Max gave great lectures and provided clear guidelines for his assignments. He made the course really interesting and I would recommend taking a course with him.POLS3423 2023-08-25 15:38:46 +0000 UTC
If you are curious about the world around you, this class is for you. Max (he prefers that to being called "Professor") is super chill but you will come away from this class having a better understanding of the news, international politics, real world events, and human psychology. This is hands down the best class I ever took at NU!POLS7207 2016-05-17 19:40:06 +0000 UTC
