While Professor Yang is knowledgeable in her field, I found her teaching approach hard to follow. The workload was excessive, and course material was not always digestible. Many students, myself included, were accused of academic dishonesty over (correct) midterm answers. Loved the class. Lecture on Tuesday, quiz on Friday (only content from Tues). Also labs/tutorials on graphing on Friday that basically help you finish lab assignment. Alternates between lab assignment (visualization tied to question(s)) or a reading + discussion post. She gives a lot of opportunity for extra credit. Drops lowest quiz score. Very by-the-book, but still kind. Many opportunities for extra credit; like so many. Class content isn't difficult, there's just a lot of content. Could be more understanding/flexible, but also does what she can without going out of order if that makes sense. I tried to give the benefit of the doubt, but the instructors lectures are confusing to follow. She never answers questions, she is unforgiving as far as late assignments and life events go. Took this class for INSH 6500 for the criminal justice graduate program. I would not recommend this class. It is incredibly R heavy, the midterm is timed with an R portion to it and long complicated theory questions. Homework is very time consuming and intense.POLS2400 2023-10-28 00:10:39 +0000 UTC
Unclear grading scheme and feedback. Pre-recorded lectures were tedious and hard to follow. If you didn't understand something in the in-class lecture, you were left behind. Prof often refused to answer questions. By far the most difficult course I've taken at Northeastern. It is all R coding. She admitted at the end that she had tortured us. The work load was unmanageable and students were pointing out where she was wrong on the writing of questions.
