Tests are online (except the final). Lectures are so hard to pay attention to - monotone, boring, and doesn't ask for participation. This makes absorbing the content significantly harder than it should be. She is sweet and cares about her students and course material. Great finance prof. She knows the material well and gives great lectures with a ton of practice. Attendance is part of your grade, but participation is not. Two midterms were online and were just like the practice and homework. Final is cumulative and in person. Online exams except final. offers curve and TRACE credit. I found her to be really concise, her powerpoints cover everything that makes reviewing a breeze. Office hours and availability was great and she offered a lot of help. can sometimes rush over some steps but just talk to her she will go over it. All of the exams are online. There is a cheat sheet allowed on the final. Lectures can be boring but she is definitely the best finance prof I have heard for this course. Knowledgeable professor but struggles to convey information often. GO TO CLASS. Professor can often get confusing with material because of backtracking and forgetting to explain things. Professor Gu is one of the best professors I have ever had at Northeastern University. I am a senior taking her course, and finance or financial accounting lecture heavy classes at Northeastern can be generally dull. Its clear she knows the material perfectly, but her lectures are incredibly dull and confusing. There are only 4 grades in the class (Hw, 2 exams and final). You have to teach yourself EVERYTHING and its pretty challenging and time consuming. By the end of the semester there were only 6 students attending the class. Gu knows finance like the back of her hand but it is often hard to understand and follow what she discusses. She teaches super quickly and has admitted that she teaches us stuff that she learned during her masters at Yale. Exams are all online, but students still score in the 70s. The final grade is curved.
