People do not understand that getting a co-op is not your advisor's responsibility. Bill was accessible, honest, and caring if you showed him that you were willing to put in the effort. Bill Jackson was the best advisor I could ask for. He will put just as much effort into you as you put into his class. If you don't care, put in any effort, and never show up to class, he may not go out of his way. His lack of network connections is definitely one of the MAJOR reasons I don't have a job. Other advisers have better connections, but not this guy. I was told I couldn't switch advisers. He's alright. I don't think I am going to get a job though but I am not sure it is entirely due to Mr. Jackson's lack of network connections. He is trying to help, but he has alot of other people freaking out about not getting calls for interviews. Prof. Jackson is a great professor. I think people are confused... his job is NOT to get you a co-op, it's to advise you on how to get one. I was in Jackson's coop prep course last fall. I have yet to find Coop employment for last or this semester. And as far as my mother holding my hand, that just isn't possible since she passed away when I was 10. So as you can see, I have been standing on my own for awhile now, without much help from him. You obviously found a job. Many of his advisees, including myself, are STILL unemployed for this COOP season and we are checking the job profiles not just daily, but hourly. Jackson is a good adviser. In the end it's the students job to put the legwork in, do the networking, and find a good job. He's not going to remind you every second to search job profiles and do interviews. Your mom isn't holding your hand anymore, and that's not your advisers job either.
