FINA4604 is a super dense finance class in nature covering Levels 1-3 of the CFA curriculum and dives into highly quantitative topics. Enjoyed this class. Mainly lecture based and had a mix of online assessments and group projects on interesting topics. This is a very technical and difficult course. I would not take it unless you are interested in Fixed Income. It covers topics from Level 1-3 of the CFA and it takes a lot of work outside of class to do well. I spent 6-8 per week outside of class studying. Alper cares about the material and his students. I took fintech in summer 1 and although the pace of the course felt a bit expedited due to summer scheduling, it was super fun to explore fintech landscape and Alper creates a friendly classroom environment. I'm in Fixed Income Securities class and it is going great so far! It is not an easy course but Professor Koparan makes it engaging and practical. I really enjoyed this class and even at 8 am Professor Koparan made lectures engaging and interesting. Some assignments are in class and there are hands-on exercises to experience cryptocurrencies and decentralized finance. Do not take fixed income securities with Alper Koparan. He is extremely disorganized and doesn't have the answers for homework figured out before the test, so you can't study effectively. Prof. Koperan is one of my favorite profs at NEU. He is extremely kind and caring and genuinely a good person. His Fintech class is relatively easy as long as you do the readings & study.
