Had a 3.85 GPA before him and still barely passed the class. He thinks he is a know it all.FINA6216 2026-02-02 23:07:26 +0000 UTC
I'm a Poc and imo, he seemed to be very fair to everyone (don't know what the review below me is on about). Fantastic lecturer, you will learn a lot. Also very accessible outside class. He doesn't have any material on Canvas though and the grading can be harsh but he curves it. As long as you go to class and pay attention, you won't regret it.FINA4412 2025-08-01 07:01:23 +0000 UTC
His class conduct was unprofessional. Belittled and talked condescendingly to, and about students. Unclear grading criteria, very quick to take away massive points with little explanation. He is not a professor I would recommend. He has a lot of experience, I'll grant him that, but his teaching methods are stuck in the pre-computer era. Use Canvas!FINA4335 2025-06-18 17:44:25 +0000 UTC
Great prof, would recommend. Make sure to come to class (on time), the tests aren't too bad. He does curve and gives partial credit on tests. Definitely have to study outside of class (tests are worth 85%) and participate in class. If you don't understand a concept he is more than happy to explain it again. Would take a class with him againFINA2201 2025-04-28 18:31:05 +0000 UTC
Gooley is very full of himself and grades with little basis. The concepts in his classes are easy but he manages to complicate them and use controversial examples.FINA6200 2024-04-29 20:12:44 +0000 UTC
The problem with Mark is that he noticeably has favorites in his class. He immediately assumes that if you do poorly on the first few assignments then youll do worse on the upcoming ones. Also, though this class was supposed to be a finance course, we really only did statistical analysis and was complete review of the Business Statistics course.FINA6202 2021-02-04 15:16:11 +0000 UTC
Very hard to follow in class and does not provide background/explanations for the concepts and material. Friendly guy but not great at encouraging engagement in class. Very disorganized and the only handouts he gives are practice problems which vary in format.FINA2209 2019-12-16 03:06:30 +0000 UTC
He was my professor for introduction to Business. He tries to get to know each and every student in the class and is very helpful. It's been more than a year and he still remembers me and constantly encourages me to take his classes. Overall, very nice and helpful. Definitely would recommend.BUSN1203 2011-12-02 14:07:14 +0000 UTC
Professor Gooley is the best professor I have ever been taught. He is respectful to everyone, caring students, and willing to direct students for the success in their career. He is knowledgeable and experienced in corporate finance. He not only teaches, but also exemplifies high-level work ethic, sharing, and being humble and open-minded.FINA6216 2018-05-01 14:34:13 +0000 UTC
If you are a women or poc I would strongly recommend another class unless you want to be constantly doubted, singled out, and made uncomfortable. Strong "boys club" and chooses controversial examples often. Is quite arrogant and seems to enjoy putting down others. He does not provide online materials and hates if you have to miss class or are lateFINA4412 2025-07-17 22:09:54 +0000 UTC
His classes are not really productive and all of your grade is based on exams. It is nearly impossible to study for exams because he doesn't have any content on canvas to study, no slides, no reviews, no study guides, nothing. If you want to study you need to use the textbook and the problems and examples in the textbook are way easier.FINA2201 2025-04-21 15:07:15 +0000 UTC
For grad students, he's a difficult grader. Not the best at giving instructions sometimes, but he's flexible and makes himself available for office hours plenty. Dry subject matter for most people, but he tries to connect it to real world examples. All in all, not a bad professor, but not the best either.FINA6200 2022-03-08 23:18:42 +0000 UTC
He uses his strange sense of humor to disguise the fact that he has no clear direction for his lessons.FINA2209 2019-12-04 01:06:23 +0000 UTC
I took valuation and value creation for summer 1 (Tue/Thurs class). Make sure you're all over the reading from the get-go or it'll be tough to catch up. He will expect a strong understanding of the material and makes you work hard for even a decent grade. Last week of class: 3 case studies due, followed by a cumulative final exam.FINA6216 2016-09-01 11:25:57 +0000 UTC
Professor Mark is an outstanding, fair, and professional educator. His lectures are engaging, his feedback is detailed, and he truly cares about his students. While the class is challenging, it's never unfair. If you care about finance, you'll love his course. Easily the best professor I've ever had—10/10.FINA4412 2025-06-23 02:33:50 +0000 UTC
