The class was very easy, tests/quizzes were very straightforward. Test questions came straight from the slides, The way the quizzes and tests are set up there is room to do badly on a test/quiz and still be able to get an A in the class. Professor Merselis is caring and accessible for extra help, but his lectures are kind of dry and is just lots of memorization. I don't like bio and I felt unmotivated to study because I he tested us on random species and evolution. His wording on tests and quizzes sometimes does not make sense. I took genetics with Prof. Merselis and he make really complex topics easy to understand. He's very accessible outside class and offers a lot of office hours. We had weekly open-note multiple choice quizzes that were based on the lecture from that week, and I found this helpful for keeping my grade up. Super enthusiastic about biology - I loved him and took him again the next semester for Inquiries. It is honestly not hard to do well as long as you don't lie to yourself about understanding the material, I would equate the difficulty to AP bio (maybe even easier). Prof. Merselis, outside of class, is a really nice and chill person who gives excellent feedback during office hours. However, during lectures, he tends to overload you with information that leaves you confused at the end of the day. Gen Bio 1 with Dr. Merselis was great! Even when lectures are more difficult, he is always more than willing to stop and answer questions and go over anything that is unclear.
