Best prof u could have. Lectures were very fast and clear and is REALLY CRAING. If u ask her any questions she'll respond immediately and explain everything with details clearly. Dessy is wonderful. She is extremely nice and is so caring towards you and your grade. Her class set up is a little weird with 5 exams where you can drop one, but they do increase in weight as they go. She is very helpful and her lectures are very engaging but they are long. If you are taking BIOL2309 take it with Dessy! Lots of homework outside class initially but this load lightens up once you start the group projects. She is incredibly understanding and truly wants the best for everyone in the class. She gives detailed and clear feedback. If you have to take BIOL2221, take it with Dessy! She is wonderful at explaining things & records her lectures. Participation matters but it's through PollEverywhere during class & helps boost your grade. She provided extra credit & she and her TAs were accessible outside of class for exam review/office hours. She's a very kind professor who truly wants to help her students. The class emphasizes group work and different lab techniques. The paper and group project, as well as the different lab experiments, are intense and detailed, but she is very helpful and explains everything well. Dessy is a good person & truly wants you to learn. However BPL gave me more work than any other class. 1st half of semester had a lot of hw (but they're graded for completion) & 2nd half was working on your group project (which required a lot of communication & planning). My complaints are towards the structure of the class rather than Dessy - she's very sweet and passionate about the material. Get ready to put in a lot of work outside class for group projects, which WILL go wrong. Desi is a very engaging professor, even with it being a large lecture. She uses PollEv to make sure everyone's questions are answered. There are weekly online homework assignments & hw quizzes but they were very manageable and similar to short answers on exams. LOVE DESSY. Very caring and organized. Learning objectives are exactly what are going to be on the tests. All tests are open book. She's really enthusiastic about biology and extremely nice and informative. She doesn't try to give you a lot work and she gives great feedback to help assist your project as best she can.
