Did not learn a single thing in this class, which left me underprepared for higher level finance classes. His slides are practically useless and leave out key information. Tests are absurdly difficult but then curved accordingly. However, if the class average on exams is (give or take) a 30% before the curve, are you actually learning anything?FINA101 2023-05-09 22:40:13 +0000 UTC
Class sessions are boring and practically useless. He lectures/rambles for the entire period and we only talk if we have questions. His thick accent is extremely hard to understand and his handwriting is impossible to read. His slides are convoluted and don't contain the necessary info. You basically have to teach yourself all the material.FINA3301 2022-12-28 03:21:29 +0000 UTC
Great professor overall. Lectures are a bit boring as professor just talks for the entire time and doesn't engage the class. Exams are hard but class is curved accordingly. Professor is an understanding and considerate person overall.FINA3303 2022-05-12 03:46:10 +0000 UTC
This professor is very bad, boring. Extremely tough - the class average was 75% and he is very rude with email responses. I do not recommend at all!FINA101 2021-06-04 23:37:28 +0000 UTC
Makolo is great at finance but is extremely boring. He has a very thick accent which takes a while to get used to. You have to teach yourself everything within this course. He made the midterm online which was nice. He cares for students but is very hard to follow during class. Case studies during class take FOREVER. HW is easy.FINA3301 2022-11-02 17:58:36 +0000 UTC
Definitely a class you have to put a lot of effort into 1) group assignments- a lot of work but only 10% of your final grade 2) purposely creates quiz and exam questions that are not the same as the homework or what we went over in class (so you're on ur own!) 3) His class is extremely hard to get an A in (it's a 95) and final is worth 35%FINA3303 2021-05-01 00:21:50 +0000 UTC
Midterm and final exams are very hard. Lots of assignments and case studies.FINA3301 2021-11-12 14:22:57 +0000 UTC
Here's my chance to be more specific. The worst professor I have ever taken. Lectures are desert dry, accent is impossible to understand, harsh grader, and the exams are absurd. As a result -- I wouldn't recommend this professor to a squirrel.FINA3303 2021-04-19 15:10:47 +0000 UTC
Accent takes some getting used to but its really not that bad. Aside from that I think hes a great professor. Explains the topics in detail and makes them easy to understand. Also very lenient with grading.FINA3301 2021-10-20 23:00:28 +0000 UTC
Took Professor Makolo's FINA 3303 (Investments) class online. His accent is heavy, and he uses powerpoint for 1 hour every class and writes unreadable chicken-scratch on the slides. I wouldn't recommend this professor to a ham sandwich.FINA3303 2021-03-03 15:38:47 +0000 UTC
Very dry boring lectures + the prof has thick accent. Very exam heavy (30% midterm and 35% final that were very difficult), and lots of group case assignments that were tedious. Stopped going to lectures after second week since I wasn't learning chicken squat. I wouldn't recommend this professor to a sun-dried tomato. Avoid!FINA3301 2021-05-03 20:40:28 +0000 UTC
Please do not be fooled by the lack of reviews here - his trace evaluations are far more accurate. You simply can't understand him with his accent. As unfortunate as this is - his accent + slow lecture pace make learning material through class near impossible - just know that if you can't understand him from his first class, it doesn't get better.FINA3303 2020-06-27 02:39:44 +0000 UTC
Prof. Makolo's class is extremely easy to get an A-, but difficult to get an A. He was kind enough to cancel participation for students in different time zones. There are 5 case studies and multiple homework (answers are all online). The midterm and final exams were super easy (around 15 questions).FINA3301 2020-12-22 08:40:22 +0000 UTC
He is a really caring professor. Always available during office hours. You can drop one of the midterms and allows to bring cheat sheet. Overall fair grader.FINA3303 2019-07-26 16:29:30 +0000 UTC
Accent takes some time to understand but overall he was a really good professor! He cares about his students and is willing to make changes to the format of his tests. Asking him questions via email or going to office hours is super helpful - He gives clear and detailed answers to help his students. An easy A-/A class with some workFINA3301 2020-11-24 17:48:13 +0000 UTC
