Day 1 was intimidating but in a good way. Prof. Prakash didn't even introduce himself, he jumped straight into a challenging assignment on a real socio-economic problem. Set high standards immediately, but you can tell he genuinely cares about students and wants them to succeed. Tough, but in a motivating way. I joined this class unsure of what to expect. At first, I feared it might be boring, but I was so wrong. The course's strong connection to real-world challenges in development economics made it fascinating. This class is entirely him presenting his own research, which is hyper-specific and doesn't teach about the field as a whole. Is basically all on South Asia; disappointing that a course on development Econ hasn't mentioned LatAm once. Professor Prakash is very sweet but does not teach the subject. He treats class as a time to talk about his research projects. While some do have to do with Developmental Econ, they do not give you a good understanding of the subject. He also has everyone say something at least once per class.
