If you have her class, switch out of it. Her lectures move FAST and are so hard to understand. She is not a nice person and doesn't care to help kids who are struggling. She had no clue how I was doing in class when asked. When you go to her office hours for help she acts like you should already be an expert on the content. Oyelaran is one of the smartest and most strict professors I have had at northeastern. Her coursework is demanding and test heavy w/ no extra credit. Exams are 90% of your grade (mix of multi choice and FRQs). She also holds problem solving sessions. You will learn a lot, but your GPA may take a hit due to the difficulty of her exams. This woman is harsh as freak, and this class was the hardest i've ever taken, but after a month of it i changed my major from bio to biochem. I don't think she would get such a bad rep if this site existed. Her tests literally suck and she will totally discourage you but she made me fall for chem in a special way. She is cool af. Worst professor I've had. The grading is based on three exams, and homework doesn't help your grade at all. She teaches as if she's talking to experts, and if you ask a question, she makes you feel like you should be ashamed of not knowing that instead of helping you understand. My dad died 3 days before the final & when WeCare reached out to her she said I should still take it. I had to do her homework assignment the night he died. I took an exam with a concussion since she wasn't flexible on extensions. Very cold, people got 8s, 9s, & 11s on her exams. Honestly probably the harshest professor i've ever had. LOVE Oye! She is the best prof. I've ever had. So inspiring and knowledgable, time with her is always enjoyable. Her class is hard, but she definitely gives you what you need to succeed. The exams were brutal, and all practice problems must be done for any chance of success. I had her for orgo1. I was so nervous going into the class because I heard the horrors of Organic Chem. She made the class interesting and easy to follow. She even provides outlines of her notes! Professor Oyelaran is very knowledgeable, however exams are not fair and are much more difficult compared to any homework and textbook problems. The class average was consistently between 55%-68%. You can tell that she's very smart and knowledgeable, but the lectures can be intense. This class definitely tests your conscientiousness, so I would recommend it to people who are preparing for the MCAT. Frankly, some exam questions are very tricky. Professor Oyelaran is THE BEST organic chemistry professor that I know of at Northeastern. She is an amazing teacher and explains everything well. Her tests are challenging, but not impossible.
