Very clear lecturer and excellent at responding to questions. A few in class assignments that basically guaranteed As. 2 open note tests w/ multiple choice, fill in the blank, and short answer. She's an awesome teacher and extremely kind and flexible. Even after NU removed zoom requirements, she kept hers open in case any of us were absent and could only attend virtually! She's quick to respond to emails and clearly wants her students to learn in the most effective way possible. Basic class in the sense that the content is very surface level and redundant. Prof Eby is very nice and accomodating. Multiple out of class activities, in class debates, 2 exams, and final group debate where you create your own debate. Mix of lectures, activities, field trips, exams, and presentations. Material could get a little boring or redundant at times but overall interesting and saw real world applications. Dr. Eby is a really great professor. She is empathetic, approachable, and incredibly knowledgeable. She checks in with every student to make sure they are able to succeed, and she goes out of her way to help students when they are stuck on a project or confused by the material. Really nice professor, easygoing & willing to help. Really cares about students' feedback. Like how grading is balanced with exams and projects, but can be a lot of homework. Clear about grading. Professor Eby is really helpful and wants you to succeed. For the final project(big chunk of your grade) you get to choose a topic that interests you. There was a huge range of topics and Prof Eby makes sure that your topic is do-able and certainly does not want you to fail. This class is certainly lecture heavy, but it is necessary to go to lecture to do well in lab. The lab work is the bulk of this class, be prepared to hunker down in front of a computer to get it right. This class is boring and she is not a good teacher. Her lectures have no flow or consistency, likely because she looks at her notes every 5 seconds which makes it seem like she doesn't really know what she's talking about even though I know she does. I loved having Professor Eby as a teacher. She's interested in getting to know her students, especially if you show up and get engaged in class. She is also very passionate about her research and gives great examples based on her actual work. If you don't need to take this class, do not take it and take something else to fulfill your credit. This class is tough and only those who seemed to enjoy it were going into a background of marine or environmental sciences.
