Prof. Gouhier was kind, but it was hard to learn from him. His lectures were SO dry and wasted LOTS of time on things we didn't need for exams, while things we needed were minimally covered. I only started succeeding when I started skipping and self-studying. You can succeed if this is one of your only hard classes, but it's easy to fall behind.ENVR2500 2025-12-16 09:17:47 +0000 UTC
He is friendly and approachable. His assignments are challenging but he is easy going about the deadlines. Overall an excellent professor.EEMB5130 2016-04-08 15:16:17 +0000 UTC

Wow. Just wow. At the start he says most people get an A for the course but it feels like the trenches. The exams are exactly how he says, they come off the assignments but you will feel completely crunched for time in the final, many people didn't even finish the exam. The lectures are full of non essential content like proofs & derivatives.ENVR2500 2025-12-13 17:52:59 +0000 UTC
Tarik is super rude and pessimistic. He certainly knows what he's talking about, but 50% of the lectures are things that he doesn't even test on, which makes things very hard to follow. 75% of the grade is the midterm and the final. Biostats is ridiculously futile and honestly this class is not for the students. Don't take unless required.ENVR2500 2024-10-21 18:09:51 +0000 UTC
incredibly rude and condescending and wastes half the lecture doing proofs and derivations that no one would ever use. honestly the class became better for me when i stopped attending lectures and only looked over his slides.ENVR2500 2024-04-19 17:59:31 +0000 UTC
It's clear that he truly understands what he's teaching. I wish sometimes he would spend less time on the things that are not tested so we can move onto the things that are tested, but regardless he really just wants his students to have any statistical tool they might need in their future careers, so I understand why he does this.ENVR2500 2022-11-18 14:37:50 +0000 UTC
A very reasonable professor. To do well you just need to do practice problems, and there are plenty of those within class lectures and homework. Success in class depends on your personal study habits. Tarik won't hand you the cake but he will give you all the ingredients to make the cake. He responds to every email and is always willing to help.ENVR2500 2022-10-27 19:44:50 +0000 UTC
Tarik wasted much of lecture time going over proofs and derivations of the statistical tests we were supposed to be learning. We did no practice problems in class at all, so get ready to teach yourself. He was disrespectful to the students and totally unreceptive to feedback. Two tests make up 70% of your grade, luckily there's a big curve.ENVR2500 2022-04-27 19:28:55 +0000 UTC
You need to be fully prepared for the most difficult class with extremely dense material (it's statistics after all). Tarik is an incredible professor, he's available 24/7 from what I can tell - and trust me you need this. By far the hardest class I've ever taken, I spent 40+ hours/week on biostats ALONE. Tarik is available to help, ask for it!ENVR2500 2022-04-20 15:56:34 +0000 UTC
do not take this class if it is not mandatory. class is extremely time consuming. professor is not very flexible with his teaching style. projects and tests are hard. lectures do not match the test and project material.ENVR2500 2022-04-19 19:40:00 +0000 UTC
the most conceited person i’ve ever met. incredibly degrading and aggressive in his language when taking to students. listens to student feedback and tells us he’s actively choosing to ignore it. poor quality of teaching. very smart but not meant for a teaching career.ENVR2500 2022-03-10 17:22:04 +0000 UTC
difficult class, difficult professor. spend 10 hours a day in the library and you'll be fine. other than that good learning experienceENVR2500 2022-02-28 01:07:19 +0000 UTC
A lot of controversy around him this semester, but he is an extremely good teacher. The class is HARD, and the assignments take a lot of time. But I have never had a professor more accessible (literally anytime day or night) to meet and help. His lectures are dry (it is STATS) but they are so helpful in the assignments. If you work, you'll do well.ENVR2500 2021-12-22 15:48:33 +0000 UTC
His tests were very difficult, however professor Gouhier made himself available to meet outside of class and was lenient with grading. If you put in the work you will do well in his classENVR2500 2021-12-22 14:31:35 +0000 UTC
