Fantastic professor, very generous, flexible and willing to answer questions. Gives opportunity for extra credit. Sad hes retiring!!!CHEM1161 2019-12-18 19:15:38 +0000 UTC
Tommy G is the absolute best! He really knows how to describe the brown LA haze (and Jimmy Buffett) and his class is really easy. GOOOOOOOD MORNING LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!!!!!!! <3CHEM1101 2018-12-03 10:49:58 +0000 UTC
Gilbert was a great professor overall. Gave good feedback and was open to discussion. Gave plenty of opportunities to get your grade up.CHEM1220 2017-10-04 00:56:56 +0000 UTC
Gilbert is a really nice professor and is willing to help. His lectures aren't incredibly interesting, but he makes it pretty difficult to not do well so don't worry too much about getting a poor grade. Expect homework every week that is usually due on Sunday nights, and two midterms that are fairly basic in content. There is also a final.CHEM1217 2015-12-16 15:21:57 +0000 UTC
One of the best professors I have ever had. Incredibly accomadating, and genuinely wants his students to do well.1220 2014-10-08 09:17:19 +0000 UTC
Very good professor. He wrote the text book we used, which is needed to do well on the recitation quizzes. The tests are straightforward if you understand the concept. He is very helpful in office hours and is very accommodating. Great professor and learns everyone's name within a week (I was super impressed overall).CHEM1207 2013-12-16 16:24:01 +0000 UTC
Gilbert is a great professor who knows his stuff. He grades very fairly, but at the same time, his exams are really challenging. I think the class averaged around C/C- for the midterms, which I guess is normal. He is much more conceptually-based than calculation-based, so if that's the way you learn, take his class.CHEM1214 2013-04-21 11:06:29 +0000 UTC
Great professor! I learned so much in this class. It's clear that prof Gilbert wants you to learn. His emphasis is on the conceptual, and he spares you the laborious calculations. Yes, his midterms are tough, but it's because they make you think. If a large portion of the class gets a Q wrong, he'll give back partial or full credit. Worth the work!CHEM1151 2012-12-04 20:25:41 +0000 UTC
Gilbert's midterms are hard, usually with a low 70's class average. However, he gives a tons of extra credit and you should pull off an A with a low 80's average or higher on tests. I highly recommend this class and his pre-exam reviews are very helpful.CHEM1211 2011-01-07 18:34:41 +0000 UTC

I like him as a professor because hes always willing to help and answer your questions if you don't understand something. His tests arent that easy and sometimes its hard to understand his lectures because some of it is very advanced. but if you listen carefully and GO to class, his lectures ARE helpful. plus he gives lots of extra credit!CHEM1213 2010-04-05 22:14:38 +0000 UTC
Really good teacher, exams are hard but not impossible, do the homework problems!CHEMMAJ 2008-01-09 21:24:25 +0000 UTC
Very intelligent man, explains some things too much though, others too little. But is great about answering questions in detail, and never shoots anyone down. A bit intimitating, yet friendly overall. He wrote the book we used, so it was like reading his lecture notes. Lots of bonus point opportunities to make up for hard exams.CHM217 2007-12-20 10:44:20 +0000 UTC
Very patient and explains well, would recommendCHMU217 2005-10-24 19:14:33 +0000 UTC
A very good professor who has the mastery over the field of chemistry.Probably the best chemistry professor I've had ( so far, by the time of this writing)Jepordy questions help a great deal but the midterms and finals could be hard. He creates an interest in the student towards the subject.CHM221 2005-05-06 13:54:09 +0000 UTC
