Solid prof whose practice tests are so helpful to prepare for real exams. However, the TA's were horrendous this sem. They click rocks together in their free time and only one TA actively responded on Piazza. HW grades came out weeks late. My king, my knight in shining armor Professor Wu is the best professor at Northeastern. He makes it so easy to learn, no reading the textbook just show up to class, do the exercises and you get extra credit. Very enthusiastic prof who is highly dedicated to making sure students get the most out of class. Lectures are well-paced, organized, and challenging enough to keep students motivated. Prof Wu is a great teacher, easily one of the best at NEU. However, the course was VERY disorganized. Schedule changes weren't communicated, assignment date changes came last minute, homework grading took 5 weeks on average, and grading guidelines were unfairly unclear. I served as a TA for Prof. Wu for two semesters. He is an exceptional professor who teaches concepts from scratch and inspires his students. Genuinely one of the best professors I have ever had. The TA's this semester were really bad though, had to wait months for homework grades at times. You need a 97% for an A but every exam has extra credit, and he offers extra credit just for showing up to class. Great professor and very knowledgeable. Explains what looks like complicated topics in machine learning that involve math, in a way that you develop a deep understanding on what's going on underneath the hood. He is clearly a great professor and loves teaching. I felt like some topics were merely just memorization of formulas or memorization of how to do certain math problems without much learning of why something was the way it was. Wu's lectures were really engaging. I can tell he put a lot of effort into preparing the lectures. The material can be challenging to some students, as they are math-heavy. I personally think this is a good thing. At the end of the day, you need a strong math background to stand out in DS.
