course was a real gpa killer. usually when you sign up for a class, you expect to learn off of the meaningful lectures and explore those concepts deeper in the homework. it was the complete opposite for professor sun's class. i ended up having to learn from the homework for the tests and the lectures did little to nothing in terms of helping me.ECEU402 2021-01-10 23:07:53 +0000 UTC
Professor Sun cannot lecture properly. His homework is very difficult but his tests are relatively straight forwards. As long as you understand the homework, you will be able to score well on his tests. Special topics magnetics class. Class did not follow the course description. Involved a lot of hard formulas and calculations that were too hard to understand. 6 homeworks, 1 midterm, and final 10 page paper and 20 minute presentation on the paper. professor sun is unbearable. his lectures are impossible to decypher and you will get an F if you try to learn off of those. outside of class, he is accessible in office hours but he gets really condescending really quickly if you do not know the concepts he expects you to know. my experience was overall unpleasant and I would not recommend.EECE2412 2021-01-10 23:10:52 +0000 UTC
I will not say that the course was difficult because I actually ended up doing satisfactory in it. However, I will say that my decent grade was a product of countless unnecessary hours of self study. The scope of this class was outside of my comfort zone but Prof. Sun is very helpful and accessible. Very reasonable professor. He brought in a specialist in the field of thin films which I thought was really cool to provide some sort of application for the topics we discussed. The homework is always very confusing but the tests are usually easy if you master the content on the homework. However, the course material isn't the issue here; it's Nian Sun himself. Nian sun is the man. His lectures are hard to follow, but he instills important subject matter by repeating power point slides each lecture. He is a little hard to understand. He really cares about his students, he tries to improve his teaching style and posts surveys to rate the class and takes suggestions, but the thing is no matter how hard he tries, his lectures are very difficult to follow.
