Holy shit, what an awful teacher. I really, really do not understand the negative reviews. Granted, most of the negative reviews are for her other class but for Intro to Marketing she was AMAZING. This course was one of the most rewarding I've taken. You work with a real client to improve their advertising strategy, and it's great experience to add to your resume. Professor Stewart is supportive, gives helpful feedback, and ties all course materials back to the client work. The professor is very passionate but it comes to a fault. The workload is heavy you'll need to spend 8+ hours a week on this class alone. Additionally, be prepared to ARGUE for your grade. I have two issues, the course and the professor. I want to start with Professor Stewart's ignorance, nobody's perfect granted, but I cannot respect someone who makes simple mistakes whether it is misgendering someone or mixing up the names of minority students. These reviews are bit dramatic, but more or less the same in terms of heavy workloads and contradictory feedback taking away from the value of the course. Client project shouldn't be as dragged on with diff parts as it is-period. Too much emphasis on experiential learning when we get that thru coop. Makes an intro class unnecessarily difficult. Quizzes and multiple assignments per week that sometimes get too much to handle. You do not know your grade the entire semester so you are kind of in the dark until the last minute. Midterm and Final are extremely long with barely enough time to complete. Despite detailed peer reviews on non-contributing teammates, she ignored our feedback, questioned why we didn't raise issues (when we had), and blamed us instead of addressing issues. FANTASTIC, fun, textbook essential (to a degree) teacher. I am baffled at the negative reviews here, I don't now how one could get anything but an A range grade besides just not trying. Just take another professor. This entire class is dedicated to a group project and involves more work than any other class I've taken at NU (maybe several classes combined). Unless you can read her mind, the work you submit will never be up to her standards. Be prepared to be scrutinized, even after you follow her advice. Prof. Stewart was very harsh. Most of the projects are competitions between peers. She tends to only give negative feedback and is not helpful when you ask for help. She gets upset and is rude to students when they have questions. The attendance rules are too strict and she doesn't excuse anything. She assigns too many group projects. Her homework is readings and videos of material that is already covered in class. Take another professor who can teach the subject with more sympathy for your time.
